It is time to start creating with the Jamaican Jerk spice blend from our last post. I will begin with a Jamaican Jerk Turkey Burger. It is zesty and full of Caribbean flavor. We grill year round, but this burger cooks just as well stove top if that is not an option for you.
The basting sauce for this is:
- 1 TBS Jamaican Jerk spice blend (substitute your own blend if you want)
- 1 TBS honey
- 1 TBS liquid aminos (soy sauce can be substituted)
Stir to combine. Reserve for basting.
For the burger you will need:
- 1 lb. ground turkey
- 1 egg
- 2 TBS grated parmesan cheese
- 1 TBS Jamaican Jerk spice blend (substitute your own blend if you want)
- 1 TBS ground flax seed (optional)
- 1 TBS diced Scotch Bonnet Pepper (optional)
The Scotch Bonnet Pepper is going to add zest and heat. Use caution when dicing. The seeds and oils from the pepper can cause irritation to your hands. Use gloves if you are sensitive.
Place all burger ingredients in a bowl. Combine well making sure the spices are distributed throughout. Divide into 4 burgers. Cook burgers on a grill or in a skillet on medium heat for 5 minutes.
Flip burgers and baste with half of the basting sauce. Cook for another 4 minutes. Flip again and baste the other side of the burger. Continue cooking about 2 more minutes until completely cooked through.
Serve up with your favorite side.
Today, I used a cauliflower bun and coleslaw.
Enjoy!
